History
“Trajan was the second emperor of Rome from the Antonine dynasty and ruled from 98 to 117. He was born in what is now Spain and became the first emperor outside the Apennine Peninsula.
He significantly expanded the territory of the empire (only Octavian Augustus conquered more new lands in the entire history of Rome). But the love and respect of fellow citizens Trajan brought civil projects: the construction of public buildings and assistance to the poor and orphans. Towards the end of his reign, he built Trajan’s Column – a monument to his military achievements. Later, his remains were buried at the foot of the column.
In recognition of his services to Rome, the Senate awarded him the title of “Optimus Princeps” – “the best of rulers.”
